Insurers: Many ACA Enrollments May Be Incomplete On 1/1/14

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that many enrollees in the Affordable Care Act won’t be able to access their plans, visit physicians, or purchase prescriptions until insurance companies process their applications and issue membership cards.

Many experts are predicting confusion and frustration in the first few weeks of the year.

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is reaching out to CEOs of the major pharmacy companies, urging them to help the Administration try to get in front of possible problems with the ACA.  In response, Walgreens announced on Monday it will offer a month of prescriptions with no upfront costs to Americans who have signed up for coverage under the ACA but have not yet received a plan identification number.  CVS Pharmacy has made similar plans.
