Saturday, Dec. 20 at 11:59pm is the deadline for Idahoans to enroll in health coverage for Jan. 1 through the federal health insurance exchange.
Anyone needing coverage for the new year should shop around for a plan. Those who were previously turned away from affordable insurance plans because of pre-existing conditions don’t have to worry about being barred from insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
Consumers should also not only consider potential premium costs, but also the benefits of a plan when deciding what kind of coverage is the best fit. Consumers are only eligible for federal subsidies if they shop through the exchange, and open enrollment officially ends Feb. 15.
