Some Americans Protest The Affordable Healthcare Act By Refusing Subsidies

Reports on a “small group” of Americans who are refusing government subsidies for health insurance. Some “are protesting Obamacare, while others simply feel it’s unethical to accept taxpayer dollars to pay for health insurance.” Gerry Wedig, a professor at the University of Rochester’s Simon Business School, said, “It’s almost a philosophical or political statement.” The article adds that the “ethical question” of accepting subsidies is complicated by the fact “that some people who qualify for subsidies based on their income could afford to pay their own way.”
