  • Medicare Part A is a hospital insurance program that helps pay for care with inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility, hospice, and home health care.
  • Medicare Part B helps helps pay for durable medical equipment and covers medically necessary services like doctors’ services, home health services, outpatient care and other medical services.
  • Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) If you collect benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board (RRB), you will automatically get Medicare Part A.
  • Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance). You can elect to take part B or not. If you don’t want to keep Part B, you must follow the directions when you get your Medicare card to let Medicare know you don’t want it. Otherwise, You can enroll into Part B and you will be charged the Part B premium. Currently $115.40 for those who participate after January 1, 2011.
