CMS Error Led To Mistakes In Insurance Subsidy Calculation.

The Kaiser Health News reported that “thousands of families with a disabled or deceased parent” were wrongly denied “Medicaid coverage and others received less in premium tax credits and cost-sharing subsidies than they were eligible for” because the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services incorrectly included some children’s Social Security benefits when calculating their families’ modified adjusted gross income. Since acknowledging the error in March, the “CMS has advised [health insurance] assisters to help consumers remedy the error by submitting an appeal to the federal marketplace or applying through healthcare.gov or the state for a Medicaid determination.”
