This morning in a press conference, President Obama addressed the issues with the rollout of the healthcare law. He proposed that insurers might allow renewal of their non-grandfathered individual plans during 2014. State insurance commissioners also received a letter sent by CCIIO Director Gary Cohen which indicates the proposed extension would also apply to small employer policies renewing from January 1, 2014, to October 1, 2014.
There are many unanswered questions about how this would be implemented, and we are awaiting further regulatory guidance at both the federal and state levels. In the meantime, we’re assessing what might be possible, and are working directly with state insurance departments to determine next steps.
